NOLA Jazz fest Review

Image
First of all, I just want to give credit for the other people who have taken these photos... Sean (with his fantastic new camera), and Kirsten (with her Iphone).  If I didn't have these two, I wouldn't have the chronicles. I am supposed to be writing my final paper for school right now, and instead, I am sitting in a French Quarter Coffee shop just replaying and replaying my weekend in my head. I can't believe it is already a week after I have raced NOLA 70.3 (well... 2.1+52+13.1=67.2)... the time has just flown buy.  And, most of that time, I have no idea what I was doing.  I remember monday, when Kirsten brought us around NOLA looking at Banksy's and blighted properties  and graveyards , and having yummy breakfasts.  And, during breakfast, my beloved said something to the effect of "Are you going to phone air canada, and change that ticket?  I mean... its an opportunity not to be missed." but, really, it was this past weekend that just rocked my w...

Amo's Hot Shots 3.0

every year and a half, or so, I come out with a music compilation CD.  They started because i friend of mine, Zach Mauss, used to give them as gifts to all his friends when we were in college.  I just LOVED getting the CD's, and I knew that any time I got a CD mix from a friend (including the music complilation Queen, Megan Orsini , who once sent me 6 CDs at once), I tend to love.love.love them. Since tonight I had a dinner at a cute little Mile End Pizzeria , where I ate WAY too much, with some of my closest "montreal people," I figured that it was a good time to put together another mix.   Amo's Hot Shots 3.0 has hit the shelves!!!   You can see playlists for Hot Shots 1 & 2 here .  Hot Shots 2.5 had a very limited distribution in December 2009, but, a fantastic play list as well.  And, since I didn't list them ever on my blog, here are the play lists for Amo's Hot Shots 2.5 and 3.0. 3.0 has a complilation of mostly Canadian music from 2...

i have 11 songs with "ain't" in the title.

This weather is LAME! yesterday, it downpoured all day long, and was melting snow. Today, it has changed to snow, and it accumulating like crazy. and, you want my bet... that walking outside will be hazardous, because there is probably a large sheet of ice underneath this nice blanket of snow. deadly. and, i have no desire to do a long (1.5hrs) run on the treadmills at the Y. Esp. since you are only supposed to run on them for 30 minutes at a time. spring, please come soon. so, I have been a bit moody this week. I think that it started off with my concept map presentation early this week, in which I felt I did awful. I sent a follow up email about it, which did make me feel better about it. just because i felt like I was able to voice some of my thoughts. so, hopefully i won't fail. But, my guess, is that I will get about 60%. Which, in my program is a fail. and, i hate that. On thursday night, I also had a 3hr long conversation with the boy that i like. and, to tell ...

Music Discovery

Recently have discovered Craig Cardiff . Great musician, and great lyrics. And I met God On the edge of town Where the wind meets the stillness The darkness meets the light Where the ocean reaches up to the sky The desert meets the rain But the earth meets the heavens I met God

lyrics to that song :) and.. what i am eating today!

we go up and down like a boat on a wave. we go round like a car on a busy motorway. always in motion, never the same. somedays you're happy, other days i'm sad. some days i think about, what we could've had. live for the moment, never the past. we go up and down... --------------------- so, it thought that I would also give a little blurb about what my day is going to look like today. woke up, shortly before 6:30 (yay! before my alarm, which was set for 6:37. i *love* waking up before my alarm goes off!) ate banana with almond butter. drank glass of water. went for 45 minute morning run on the "mountain." came home. ate breakfast: 2 eggs poached in marinara sauce, small bowl of natural yogurt with handful of frozen berries and cinnamon, 2 cups of french press coffee. came back, to get ready for the day. now, for those of you who don't really know my schedule, i spend a lot of time away from my house. sometimes i leave at 7am, and don't return until 8p...

"There is a reason why i love this town...."

Last night, I went to a Joel Plaskett concert. at a small-ish venue (the Vogue theater downtown), but large enough for there to be a good crowd. I felt like the concert should have been held outside, in the sun, in a park. if you ever have the chance to see him, please do, 'cause he is amazing. he is from Halifax, and has a voice that hits right to your soul. And, in addition, he is super funny, and brings along his father on tour to play with him, and the girl who he "fell in love with her voice." in my head, i think he fell in love with her. 'cause when they sing a duet, it sure sounds great. but, i read on wikipedia, that he is in love with a artist, not a musician. I went with Audrey, and friends. and, there was a point when I got really sad, 'cause I am going to miss them. lots. i am getting nervous about leaving, and moving. today, i am doing a presentation at my church, to talk about my trip. both after the 9:30 service, and the 11:15 service. I...

25 random facts about amelia payne...

So, I have recently found these two "tag your friends" things on Facebook. I, on the occasion, like things like this. so, here we go... #1: IPod my life... 1. Put your music on shuffle. 2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer. 3. Write it down, even if it sounds silly. 4. Tag friends who might enjoy doing the memo as well as the person you got the memo from. (my favourites are in bold) ____ If someone says, "Is this okay?" you say... Pull me down What would best describe your personality? Sweet Illumination (ain't that sweet!?!) What do you like in a guy/girl? With my own two hands How do you feel today? Prelude for piano No 4. What is your life's purpose? Over and out What is your motto? Rising Sun What do your friends think of you? Good Riddance (Time of your life) What do you think about very often? Around this corner What is 2+2? Kate What do you think of your best friend(s)? 12 weeks...

in 12 weeks, i will be done... (at least for a while) hopefully. knowingly. willingly. and, I am excited. tomorrow starts "Base 2" of my 20-week workout plan . I got it off beginner triathlete.com and, I am sure that 10 million other people have used this plan as well. I hope it works. I was lucky this week, because upon my return from florida (where I was a slug on the beach for 10 days), it was a scheduled "Rest week." I instead used it as a "get my body moving" week. It was, therefore, successful. I am excited to give myself i little vamp-up on the workouts. I have also added in a scheduled weekly yoga class that I can fit in, and a weekly strength and conditioning work-out with one of my co-workers, who has agreed to train me :) woo! it will be fun to get a external motivation every week from someone else, while working out. and, as Mary Eggers once said (and, i completely agree) "strong muscles are healthy muscles." This semester...

when your waterproofs don't even keep you dry...

that was today. my day, thus far: wake up 6:30. school work and breakfast. depart 8:15, on bike, with "sports rain jacket" (from my WVU rowing days), and one pair of long spandex underneath capri-length cannondale cycling bib short things, wool socks, wool short sleeve, polyester long sleeve, and "waterproof" cycling gloves. go to a doctor's appt, 8:45. go to coffee with erik, 9:15. gracefully accept a pair of cycling booties. go on bike ride, 10:30ish. return home, 11:45, and run into shower. eat lunch. do school work (or, blog!). now, here in vancouver, we get rain in the winter . and, when i say rain, i mean that a low pressure front places itself directly above the city, and remains there until about april or may. however, luckly enough though, we have not had a lot of rain this fall. there have been damp rides, but not soaking rides. today, though, i was reminded of what it is going to be to train through the winter. Today, i thought "hmmmm, m...

young at heart

So, i recently watched this documentary .  it was beautiful, and sad, and amazing.  it reminded me that as we get older, we do get wiser, and we get more stubborn, and in many ways, we stay the same, and desire the same things.   and, this song was sung.  i already knew it, being a fan of coldplay, but it brought a whole new aspect... here are the lyrics: When you try your best, but you don't succeed when you get what you want, but not what you need when you feel so tired, but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone but it goes to wast Could it be worse? Lights will guide you home, And ignite your bones, And I will try to fix you, High up above or down below. When you're too in love to let it go But if you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And i will try to fix you Tears stream down your face, I p...

my newest obsessions

Image
so, these are two things that i like a lot right now. vespa's i am currently debating selling my Maggie the Matrix, in order to buy a scooter. Would love a vespa, but they are a little expensive. but, definently beautiful. not to mention super amazingly cool. if you see someone cruising down the street on somthing that looks like this: how can you not instantly think that they are amazing, and that you want to meet them? no idea. i would want to meet me if i drove one of these. current obsession #2: Juno (the movie, not the goddess). if you have not seen this, i reccomend dropping everything that you are doing right now, and going to see this movie, and download the soundtrack. the best part of this movie is not that it is filmed in Vancouver, which is pretty cool as well, or that the main actress is from halifax, and reminds me of a friend of mine, or that the soundtrack is fricken amazing, or that there are high school boys running in short shorts, but rather, the best pa...
