overwhelmed with life

this week has seemed awful, and tonight, i was just upset with people.

first of all, you would think, that with 2 extended health care plans, that the following things would be covered, or at least some of it:
~eye glasses
~physiotherapy
~ambulance
~massage therapy

in total, those things cost approximantly 900$.  how much did i get back?  35.  35 dollars.  what the hell!?  damn bureaucracy! it really isn't helping someone who does not have a high income, but is struggling to live, contribute to society, and be educated.  arrrgh. i am so upset about that.  i know it is only money, but really.  i shouldn't  have to pay 400$ for a damn 7 block ambulance ride.

and, i lost my phone.  which cost another 100$.

and, i am stressed about my presentation on wednesday. I think and know that i am prepared, but after my presentation last thursday, i felt raked over the coals, even though i got positive feedback.  i don't want that to happen again.

and, finally, i am over analyzing life, and relationships.  the ones that i have, the ones that i don't have, and the ones that i wish i had.  the people that influence the choices that i make.  the people who shouldn't have influence over the choices i make, but do.  the people i don't actually know in real life, but think i should.  the fleeting encounters that make me realize that that i sometimes don't have control.

and, africa is making me homesick again.  it has been too long.

and, in last note.  I am running the pacific spirit 10k trail run. I am fundraising for it. it goes towards awareness/research on Dementia.  You can see my sponsor page at the following address:

look up my name.  Amelia Payne. in case you forgot.

but, now i have a new phone.  please call it or text it or email me.  778-558-1280.  tell me your phone number.

that is all.

Vancouver Sun Run

So, this past sunday, i participated in the Vancouver Sun Run.  It is the largest 10km race in Canada, and the second largest in North America.  I have never ran a 10k, but, it was soooo much fun.  it is a fast race, not a long distance, so you aren't tired, and you can do it without being in stellar/peak shape.  There was almost 60'000 runners registered, but, apparently 44160 showed up.

as for my results.  I finished in a time of 52:54.  (not too bad, but i think i could do about a 45min if i was training more).  That put me in an overall place of 6027/44160, a division (female 20-24) place of 218/2896, and a gender place of 1263/24866.  so, not tooo shabby.

but, i think that 10k's are my new favourite thing to do.  i loved the energy flowing from everyone around me.  i had so much adrenaline after the run, that i wanted to keep on going.  i helped a random man finish off strong, with a sprint finish. the adrenaline kept on pumping all afternoon long.  i want more!  i want more!

The windy city

This past weekend, I had the lovely opportunity to travel to chicago, to celebrate a friend of mine's (Amanda) 30th birthday.  It was a great time, with so much love spread around.  There were 6 of us there, with not one being from the windy city.  the weather was terrible (just over freezing, and sleety/rainy), but i think the love over powered that.  in total, i was in the city for about 48 hours, approx 8 of which were sleeping, and rest seeing amazing people.

some of the highlights. the musical Wicked. getting a "free round trip ticket in the 48-continuous states."  Watching a documentary that my friend jon was in.  staying up until 4am. eating breakfast at panera.  the photography exibit at the art museum.  reuniting with segue girls. deep dish pizza.  laughing and conversations.

thank you Paul Kist for taking the photos.  the following are beautiful, and amazing people.

Panera Bread from breakfast!
can i say cinnamon crunch bagel with hazelnut cream cheese? yum!

The wonderful birthday girl, Amanda:
laughter is the best medicine.  The amazing Christina Lansley, and Jon Holm. Myself

The  Chicago Art Museum:
waiting in the rain.

Jon in the classics.
the ancient romans.

I also had the chance to invite Sharon and Emily (From my segue trip) out for an hour or two.  every once and a while, you have the opportunity to see how people have grown.  these two girls emplify "everything that is lovely"

and finally.  Beer.

new looks

i don't have much to say about this post. i think the photos will say it all. maybe the only thing is that i love both of the new things i got in my look in the last 2 weeks.

other things of note for this weekend. i had a phenomenal weekend. last night, went out with my co-workers et al. now, i really like my coworkers. they are super swell, and i stayed up until about 4:30, when i fell asleep sitting upright on a couch, and my friend brian then picked me up and put me in a bed. that was quite nice, and considerate of him. Today, i went to see "Mama Mia" the broadway musical, here in Vancouver. it was expensive, but it was *amazing.* it is funny, with musicals, almost everytime, before they even start (like, at the point when the musicians start playing, and the lights go down), i generally choke up a bit, because i know how much i am going to love the singing and dancing. and oh baby, was MAMA MIA filled with singing and dancing and lycra, and those things are definently in my list of things that i love.
